Sangha and Hurricane Katrina

Sangha was able to send physicians to the Hurricane Katrina affected areas in Gulfport, MS and New Orleans, LA within 2 weeks of the Hurricane. Sangha partnered with Children's Health Fund (CHF)(www.childrenshealthfund.org) and was able to provide acute disaster care on medical mobile units. We were also able to help transition from disaster care to primary maintenance care. Most infrastructure was destroyed, including emergency care. Therefore Sangha developed and instituted a program in conjunction with CHF to train primary care providers and mental health therapists in emergency care. Through our efforts 20 primary and mental health providers were trained in Basic Life Support and 12 primary care providers were trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
